05 How to buy tickets?
How to Buy Tickets as a Foreigner in Korea
There are two main pathways depending on your status:

1. With a Korean phone number or foreign resident registration (ARC)
You can purchase tickets through domestic platforms such as NOL, Yes24, Ticketlink, or theater-direct sites, the same way Korean nationals do. These typically allow logins through Naver, Kakao, Google, or Apple accounts. Discounts (such as early-bird, student, or promotional offers) are often available only through these domestic systems.

2. Without Korean phone number or registration
Foreigners can use Interpark Global, Yes24 Global, or Ticketlink Global. Interpark Global in particular is designed exclusively for non-Koreans—it requires you to register with your passport number, nationality, and phone number (foreign credit cards are accepted). Identity is verified either by the last four digits of your phone number or, if unavailable, by presenting your passport at the venue.

Interpark Global requires passport number, nationality, and phone number when registering. Identity is verified either by the last four digits of your phone number or by passport at the venue. Ticket purchases then proceed smoothly with foreign credit cards, but no discounts are offered.
-
Yes24 (English site) functions within the domestic system but provides an English interface. Tickets bought here are usually will-call only, requiring a passport at pickup.
-
Ticketlink also provides limited English support, though its international reach is smaller compared to Interpark.
Practical tip: Most international audiences find Interpark Global the easiest option for smooth payment and access, but availability can vary by production. It’s always worth checking both global and domestic sites if you have access to both.

When are the tickets available in Korea

Tickets for Korean musicals are usually released a few months before the performance. Release dates are announced through production companies’ social media channels and press articles. Tickets are often sold in short blocks, with new blocks opening sequentially depending on the run. Early releases may include more discount options or promotional sales, but if tickets sell out quickly, those discounts can disappear.

Because additional blocks are announced later, audiences must closely monitor release schedules. Announcements are typically shared through official Instagram accounts or fan community sites. For popular shows, tickets may sell out within minutes of release, requiring buyers to act with exceptional speed and alertness.

In Korea, discounts are sometimes tied to specific ticketing platforms, credit cards, or membership registrations. This means even local audiences may miss certain promotions if they are not signed up with the right service. Because the requirements vary and often involve domestic verification, international audiences are less likely to access these options. For practical purposes, it is safest to focus on securing tickets through major platforms, even if that means paying standard prices.

Same-Day Official Options
In both Daehakro (Seoul’s theatre district) and Broadway, it is not uncommon to find opportunities for last-minute tickets simply by being near the theatres. As box office opening hours approach, unsold or returned seats may be released at reduced prices. While these are not always advertised, hanging around the theatre area can occasionally yield good discounts or same-day availability.

How to buy tickets in Broadway

Broadway.org is the official site of The Broadway League and remains the most reliable entry point for audiences, providing show listings, theatre details, and links to official ticketing partners. Through Broadway.org, audiences can access official ticketing platforms and theatre homepages.

From there, most ticketing is handled through:

-
Telecharge – the primary platform for many Shubert Organization theatres.

-
BroadwayDirect – the Nederlander Organization’s official ticketing service, created after parting from Ticketmaster. It sells tickets directly for Nederlander theatres and occasionally manages part of other theatres’ seat inventory, including Shubert shows.

-
SeatGeek – the official ticketing partner for Jujamcyn theatres.

-
Ticketmaster – sells tickets for some Nederlander, Jujamcyn, and several independent theatres.

Some theatres also maintain their own official websites. In most cases, these sites provide show information but redirect to Telecharge, Ticketmaster, or SeatGeek for final payment. However, there are exceptions: the Eugene O’Neill Theatre (home of The Book of Mormon) runs its own ticketing directly, and Broadway.org links audiences straight to that site. To avoid scams and inflated prices, always use these official channels rather than secondary sellers.

Note that BroadwayDirect often divides seat inventory with Telecharge, meaning availability can differ slightly between platforms. To see the full range of options, it’s best to check both before finalizing a purchase.
Keep in mind that all sales are final, with only limited flexibility for date changes in certain cases.
Discount Ticket Options in Broadway
Broadway has a wide range of discount systems, but unlike Korea’s early-bird or group promotions, most of them depend on timing and flexibility rather than fixed campaigns.

-
TKTS Booths
Operated by the Theatre Development Fund, TKTS sells same-day tickets at 20–50% off. The main booth is located in Times Square, with additional booths at Lincoln Center and South Street Seaport. Availability varies by show and day.

-
Rush & Digital Lotteries
Many Broadway productions offer deeply discounted same-day tickets through rush sales or digital lotteries. Rush tickets, often priced around $30–$40, are sold in limited numbers when the box office opens on a first-come, first-served basis. Digital lotteries, run through BroadwayDirect or Lucky Seat, allow winners to purchase tickets for $10–$40. Lotteries usually open one or two days before the performance, with popular shows such as Hamilton, Wicked, and Moulin Rouge! participating.

-
TodayTix App
An authorized partner offering mobile-exclusive discounts, rush tickets, and lotteries. Sometimes better seats appear here than through official platforms, often at lower prices.

-
Student, Senior, and Industry Discounts (see Playbill)
Certain shows offer special discounts with valid ID at the box office, though these are less standardized than the systems above.

Reflection
While Korea emphasizes fairness and transparency through fixed pricing and limited promotions, Broadway leans toward flexibility. Discounts reward audiences who are willing to be spontaneous, check multiple outlets, or try their luck with lotteries and rush systems.
