Broadway Musicals I've Attended
I am a theatergoer, not a professional reviewer. I like to collect data and record what I’ve seen. For many years, I went to Broadway shows whenever I traveled to New York — not as often as I wished to, but enough to form lasting impressions. I also attended musicals in Korea, and during COVID-19 and the years right after, when travel was impossible, I experienced even more productions here.
This website is mainly dedicated to introducing Korean musicals, both original works and licensed productions. At the same time, Broadway musicals have long influenced K-musicals — and today the exchange goes both ways. That is why I include reviews of Broadway, Off-Broadway, and other international English-language productions: to show how the two worlds connect, reflect, and continue to shape each other.
About this section:
Under the title Reviews of Broadway Musicals, I include not only Broadway shows I have seen in New York, but also Off-Broadway productions, North American tours, and other international English-language productions. While Broadway remains the reference point, my aim here is to highlight how these works connect with Korean licensed productions and the growth of Korean originals.
Where meaningful, I’ve also included cross-reference links to related entries. If you're interested in how stories travel and evolve across borders, I recommend visiting the Licensed Musicals in Korea menu as well.
Mamma Mia!
맘마미아!

Wicked – International Tour in Korea
위키드 - 내한공연
The 2025 international tour brought Wicked to Korea with a mostly Australian cast. Strong voices and staging mirrored Broadway, though uneven amplification and pared-down mechanics stood out. Glinda was perky with big vibrato endings, Elphaba soared in Defying Gravity, and the Wizard shone vocally.

Wicked
위키드
At Broadway’s Gershwin Theatre, Wicked dazzled with its towering, layered staging and immersive effects. From my right balcony seat, reverb softened diction and “Defying Gravity” lacked impact, but strong performances and breathtaking visuals made it a magical experience worth revisiting.

Gypsy
집시
Audra McDonald’s electrifying Rose anchors this raw Gypsy at the renovated Majestic. Jordan Tyson’s fierce June, Joy Woods’ transformative Louise, and Danny Burstein’s warm Herbie shine in a staging that trades Phantom’s grandeur for grit, exposing obsession, delusion, and parental ambition’s cost.

Chicago at the Ambassador Theatre delivered razor-sharp minimalism that felt truly spectacular. With visible musicians, bold staging, and biting wit, it turned restraint into power. Standout performances, especially from Amos and Roxie, left a lasting emotional punch.

I attended the North American Tour of Les Misérables at the Kennedy Center Opera House in July 2025. The Book of Mormon
북 오브 몰몬
A bold, outrageous, and unexpectedly warm musical that satirizes faith, culture, and American optimism.
