Affection Flows (정이 흐르네) is a large-scale Korean original music-theatre work by the Yegreen Troupe based on Ko Un’s long narrative poem Han River. SYNOPSIS

(Partial Synopsis)

Set against the symbolic and historical landscape associated with the Han River, the musical unfolds as a music-theatre pageant centered on Korean spirit, collective memory, and cultural identity.

A full narrative synopsis is not currently verifiable from surviving sources. Contemporary descriptions indicate the work adapted Ko Un’s long narrative poem Han River into an eight-scene gamugeuk structure emphasizing symbolic imagery over documented plot summary. Surviving records suggest the production mobilized classical dance, modern ballet, music, and theatrical spectacle to stage an expansive representation of “Korean spirit.”

PRODUCTION NOTE

Presented as Yegreen’s tenth production in 1969, Affection Flows appears to have leaned toward hybrid music theatre or gamugeuk form rather than conventional book musical structure. Its adaptation from Ko Un’s long poem and use of multi-form staging suggest an important experimental point in early Korean original musical development.

Because a complete narrative synopsis has not yet been recoverable, this entry intentionally preserves a Partial Synopsis designation. Surviving newsreel footage is particularly important for this production, functioning as both visual documentation and a rare performance record.

Some sources inconsistently number this among Yegreen’s repertory sequence, reflecting broader instability in early documentation.
