SYNOPSIS

(Partial Synopsis)

Set in an undefined, symbolic landscape shaped by war and nature, the musical unfolds in a forest where human conflict and environmental destruction intersect.
At the center of the story is Nashitalla, a figure deeply connected to the forest, who struggles to protect it amid the chaos of human violence and desire. As war spreads and communities suffer, characters are forced to choose between immediate human needs and the preservation of life and nature.

The narrative intertwines love, sacrifice, and ideological conflict, presenting relationships shaped by trauma and survival. The forest becomes both a literal and symbolic space, representing healing, memory, and the fragile balance between humanity and the environment.

As tensions escalate, the characters confront moral contradictions, and the story raises questions about responsibility, sacrifice, and the possibility of coexistence between human ambition and ecological preservation.

PRODUCTION NOTE

Dancing Shadows was produced by Seensee Company as a large-scale original musical based on the play Sanbul by Cha Beom-seok. Developed over several years with international collaborators—including playwright Ariel Dorfman and composer Eric Woolfson—the work aimed to create a globally marketable Korean musical. Despite its ambitious scale and international creative team, the production received mixed to negative reception due to narrative and stylistic inconsistencies.
