🎵 CJ ENM-led Broadway project based on the 2007 film
Overview
August Rush is a musical adaptation of the 2007 Warner Bros. film, which was co-produced by CJ ENM. In 2014, CJ ENM announced plans to develop a stage version in collaboration with Southpaw Entertainment, the film’s original U.S. production company. CJ ENM took the initiative by sending producers to New York and directly recruiting the creative team, which included composer Mark Mancina, book writer Glen Berger, and director John Doyle.
In 2019, a musical titled August Rush premiered at the Paramount Theatre in Aurora, Illinois, led by the same creative team. While CJ ENM was not officially credited in that production and has not referenced it in public materials, the personnel continuity suggests that the 2019 version originated from the earlier development CJ ENM initiated. Whether or not the company remained involved at that stage is unknown.
The current status of the musical is unconfirmed, and no Broadway engagement has been announced.
As a full member of the Broadway League, CJ ENM continues to pursue original productions and global partnerships in the U.S. and U.K. theater markets.
