三銃士
The Three Musketeers (삼총사) is a Korean licensed adaptation of the Czech musical based on Alexandre Dumas’ novel, premiering in 2009 and running recurrently through 2022. The production later toured Japan and Taiwan with Korean casts, contributing to the spread of Korean musical exports in Asia.
ORIGIN
2009, produced by M Musical Company (엠뮤지컬컴퍼니) at Chungmu Art Hall, Seoul. Based on the 2004 Prague musical, with music by Michal David and “All For Love” by Bryan Adams retained as the main theme. The Korean version was heavily reworked with new script, lyrics, staging, choreography, and costumes to fit Korean theatrical sensibilities. Named Best Cultural Content by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2009.
STORY
Set in 17th-century France, the young Gascon D’Artagnan travels to Paris to join the musketeers, where he encounters Athos, Porthos, and Aramis. While clashing with soldiers loyal to Cardinal Richelieu, he falls in love with Constance and becomes entangled in political intrigue surrounding the masked king, Milady, and a plot to seize the throne. The musical blends swashbuckling action, court romance, and friendship, ending with the iconic motto “All for one, and one for all.”
