1. Overview
Blue Blind (블루블라인드) is a Korean original musical inspired by the folktale Sim Cheong-jeon (The Tale of Sim Cheong). The work re-imagines the traditional story as that of a modern, self-determined woman. Blending traditional Korean motifs with modern rock and digital projection, it combines visual design and emotional narrative typical of contemporary K-musicals.
Directed and produced by Park Hae-mi, Blue Blind integrates ink-wash imagery, 3D mapping, and interactive media to connect Korean stage aesthetics with global theater practice.
2. Korea Premiere (2023)
Premiered in November 2023 at the Uijeongbu Arts Center, followed by performances at the Unjeong Happiness Center and Seongnam Art Center Atrium.
The original cast featured Park Hae-mi, Nam Sang-il, Lee Tae-won, Choi Soo-hyung, Woo Ji-won, and Park Sang-myeon. The production drew notice for its reinterpretation of Sim Cheong-jeon through cinematic staging and choreography that mixed classical and modern movement.
3. Off-Broadway Debut (2024)
The musical’s first international presentation was held at The Sheen Center for Thought & Culture in New York from November 12 to 14, 2024.
The U.S. staging, directed by Kary H. Sarrey with art direction and production by Gyurin Kim (Sodam Art Production), introduced the work to Off-Broadway audiences in a limited showcase emphasizing cross-cultural collaboration.
