ORIGIN

The musical was first produced in 2015 as 그 여름, 동물원 (literally “That Summer, Zoo”), developed as an original Korean jukebox musical using songs by Kim Kwang-seok and the band Dongmulwon. It premiered at Dongsung Art Center in Seoul and was produced by The Group. The work later underwent revisions and was retitled 다시, 동물원 (Again, Zoo), continuing its life as a repertory production reflecting generational memory and Korean folk-pop history.

STORY

Set around the formation and early years of the band Dongmulwon, the musical follows a group of young musicians navigating friendship, artistic ideals, and diverging life paths. Framed through memory and reflection, the story juxtaposes youthful ambition with later-life regret and nostalgia. Well-known songs such as “Hyehwadong (혜화동),” “변해가네 (Changing),” and “Writing a Letter on a Cloudy Autumn Sky (흐린 가을 하늘에 편지를 써)” are woven into the narrative, emphasizing emotional resonance over plot-driven conflict. The tone is lyrical and reflective, blending live music performance with dramatic recollection.
