寻找家人
Finding My Family (식구를 찾아서) is a Korean original human-comedy musical about two elderly women who unexpectedly become companions and form a new kind of family, blending humor with emotional reflection on aging, loneliness, and chosen kinship. A steady long-running title since its 2011 premiere, the show earned major awards and was introduced to the Chinese market through a showcase presentation at the 2018 K-Musical Roadshow in Shanghai.
ORIGIN
Premiered in 2011. Written by playwright Oh Mi-yeong with music by composer Cho Sun-hyung, co-produced in early stages by Chungmu Arts Center and Sureul Art Hall. Developed through the 2010 Creative Factory musical workshop program, selected as an outstanding support piece, and later chosen for the Daegu International Musical Festival’s creative musical category before opening in Seoul. Built as a small-cast, character-centered comedy-drama focusing on non-traditional family bonds.
STORY
An elderly woman, Bok-nyeo, lives quietly with her three animal companions until another grandmother, Ji-hwaja, suddenly arrives at her home, following a mistaken address in her son’s letter. Forced into unwanted cohabitation, the two women begin a journey to track down Ji-hwaja’s missing son, gradually discovering each other’s past wounds and redefining what “family” means. With comedy, warmth, and a balance of lightness and grief, the musical portrays the idea that family can be chosen, not only inherited.
