Hye-Young Choi

Korean Background:

South Korean

Hye-Young Choi is a Korean-born musical theatre performer whose Broadway career forms part of the early history of Korean representation on the American musical stage. She made her Broadway debut playing Lady Thiang in the original cast of the 1977 Broadway revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The King and I at the Uris Theatre. Her performance is also preserved on the production’s Broadway cast recording. Choi subsequently appeared in the 1979 West End production of The King and I. Her documented work places her among the small group of Korean performers who appeared in major English-language musical productions during the 1970s, before the broader expansion of Korean and Korean-diaspora representation on Broadway.
