Joomin Hwang is a South Korean performer who developed an unconventional path from Korean street dance to Broadway musical theatre. Born and raised in South Korea, he began breakdancing at twelve and later discovered musical theatre while visiting London. At twenty-nine, he moved to the United States to study vocal performance and pursue a professional stage career. Hwang made his Broadway debut as an original ensemble member of The Prom in 2018 and performed with the company on the Tony Awards broadcast. He subsequently joined the original Broadway cast of & Juliet as Kempe while also covering François. His career represents a direct transition from Korea’s dance culture into American musical theatre and demonstrates a route to Broadway built through movement, vocal training, and immigration.
