Summary
A Korean jukebox musical built from 1970s–80s pop hits, first staged in 2004 by PMC Production.
Origin & Development
Dalgona is a jukebox musical created and directed by Song Seung-hwan and produced by PMC Production, the company known for Nanta. It premiered in 2004 and won the Audience Popularity Award at the 2005 Seoul Theatre Festival. The title refers to the Korean honeycomb candy made from sugar and baking soda, used as a symbol of childhood and the passage of time.
The musical incorporates twenty-four well-known Korean pop songs from the 1970s and 1980s and was promoted as "Korea's answer to Mamma Mia!" for its use of familiar songs within an original narrative.
Partial Synopsis
When a group of old friends reunites, songs awaken memories of youth, first love, and choices made during Korea’s rapid social change. Moving between past and present, they reconsider what they lost and retained.

Licensed under a 2007 agreement between PMC Production and Amuse Inc. with 5% royalties on gross sales, this was the first formal overseas license of a Korean original musical. Retitled Ramune, the piece was moved to the Showa era and rescored with Japanese pop songs of the 1960s–70s in place of Korean hits; cultural references were localized while the original's narrative framework was largely kept. It returned in 2008 at Shinjuku FACE and Owl Spot Theatre.
