Summary
A Korean original musical first developed in Daegu and later presented at the 2013 Daegu International Musical Festival, where it received the Grand Prize.
Origin & Development
The musical was first introduced as a showcase in 2012 in Daegu, created by MAC Theatre. A full staging followed in 2013 and was awarded the Grand Prize at the Daegu International Musical Festival (DIMF), marking its early recognition within the Korean regional musical scene. The work was developed by Daegu-based writers and producers and structured as an omnibus musical centered on the symbolic magnolia flower. 2012 showcase premiere – Daegu. 2013 full production – Daegu International Musical Festival, Grand Prize. 2014 Seoul run – Hanyang Repertoire Theatre as part of DIMF follow-up programming. 2018 revival – Daegu Bongsan Cultural Center Space Laon (Sept 7–22). Later small-theatre revivals have taken place intermittently in Daegu, including community or limited-engagement performances through 2024.
Partial Synopsis
Three stories linked by the magnolia unfold across wartime separation, migrant life, and a neighborhood threatened by redevelopment. Each follows people carrying love and loss through changing times.
