OZ

Oz (오즈) is a Korean original musical set inside a VR game inspired by The Wizard of Oz, following the bond between a human player and an abandoned AI character in a near-future world dominated by automation. After its 2023 premiere and 2024 encore run in Seoul, the show received its first licensed Japanese production in November 2024.

ORIGIN

Premiered in 2023, produced by Amuse Entertainment (Korea). Written by Kim Sol-ji with music by Moon So-hyun, the musical reframes the Oz mythos as a digital adventure inside a VR game in the year 2045, where most jobs have been replaced by AI and human labor has become obsolete. The work blends pop-rock score, gamer humor, and character-driven storytelling, using a small ensemble and screens to create a hybrid physical–virtual stage world.

STORY

In 2045, Jun works as the last remaining human employee in an automated VR-device factory. His only joy is the game <Oz>, where AI characters wait endlessly for players to log in. When the game opens a new “Story Mode,” Tin, an AI left without a user, unexpectedly obtains a rare golden ticket that allows entry. Jun, a non-paying player, persuades Tin to join him, forming an unlikely partnership between a weary human and a self-aware program desperate to feel “real.” Together they race toward the end of the storyline, where whoever reaches the final stage may have a single wish granted—if they can survive players, bosses, and the logic of the system.
