(Full Synopsis)

Set in ancient India over 2,600 years ago, the musical unfolds in the kingdom of Kapila, where a prince destined either to become a universal monarch or an enlightened being begins his journey toward truth.

Born as Siddhartha Gautama, the prince is raised in luxury by his father, who hopes he will become a great ruler. Shielded from suffering, he grows up within the palace walls and marries Princess Yasodhara. However, upon encountering the realities of aging, illness, and death outside the palace, Siddhartha begins to question the nature of human existence.

Realizing that worldly power cannot resolve the fundamental suffering of life, he renounces his royal life and sets out in search of enlightenment. Over six years, he undergoes extreme ascetic practices and spiritual discipline, confronting both physical hardship and inner temptation.

Rejecting both indulgence and self-mortification, he ultimately discovers the Middle Way. Under the Bodhi tree, Siddhartha attains enlightenment and becomes the Buddha, offering a path beyond suffering. The musical concludes with his awakening as a transformative moment for humanity.
