SYNOPSIS
(Full Synopsis)
Set in late 18th-century France, the musical unfolds in Versailles and Paris, where a royal guard officer struggles between loyalty to the monarchy and the suffering of the people during the French Revolution.
Oscar François de Jarjayes is born a daughter into a noble family but raised as a son to inherit the role of protecting the royal family. As commander of the royal guards, she serves Queen Marie Antoinette while her loyal companion André remains by her side, concealing his love due to their difference in status.
While the aristocracy indulges in luxury, the common people suffer under poverty and oppression. Oscar begins to question the social order as she encounters revolutionary voices and witnesses corruption and inequality. Disguised schemes involving a mysterious “Black Knight” further expose the contradictions within the aristocratic system.
As tensions escalate toward the French Revolution, Oscar undergoes a transformation in her beliefs, ultimately choosing to stand with the people rather than the monarchy. In the chaos of the uprising, she fights on the front lines, confronting both her identity and her ideals.
The story culminates in her death during the revolution, completing her journey from a symbol of royal authority to a figure aligned with justice and humanity.
