Origin & Development
The musical premiered in 2014 at BBCH Hall, Kwanglim Arts Center, Seoul (March 1–30). Written by Kim Eun-jung (book), with lyrics by Noh Woo-sung and music by Choi Jeong-yoon, and directed by Itagaki Kyoichi. The Japanese version involved translation and localization by Mori Yukinojo (lyrics) and Saito Eisaku (script) and was produced by Cube, Toho Entertainment in 2015. 2014 premiere – BBCH Hall, Kwanglim Arts Center, Seoul; run March 1–30, 2014. No verified subsequent domestic tours or additional Korean seasons are publicly documented beyond the initial run.
Partial Synopsis
Set in London’s Whitechapel district in 1888, the musical opens with the discovery of five prostitutes murdered and mutilated. The killer disappears, and the city is gripped by fear. The Metropolitan Police ask Sherlock Holmes to investigate. Holmes, Watson, and veteran detective Clive set a trap for the elusive “Jack,” but murders begin again just as they close in. The story examines memory, identity, and the hidden past of Holmes’s world, blending detective convention with musical suspense.
