Summary
A Korean original musical in which four orphans in 1950s Yorkshire stage The Secret Garden on their last open day before leaving the orphanage.
Origin & Development
Produced by the National Jeongdong Theater, with book and lyrics by Sol Ji Kim, music by Brandon Lee and Hanim Kang, and direction by Ki-ppeum Lee. It premiered at the National Jeongdong Theater on March 10–April 30, 2023, and returned on August 1–September 22, 2024. It received nominations at the 8th Korea Musical Awards in 2023, including Best Production, Best Book, and Best Music.
Partial Synopsis
At St. Anthony's orphanage in 1950s Yorkshire, four children about to leave face their last open day, when prospective families visit. To lift their spirits, Amy suggests they act out The Secret Garden. As the children take on the roles of Mary, Colin, Dickon, and Martha, their own circumstances begin to mirror the story. Each actor plays two roles.
