Summary
Based on over 700 letters between Vincent and Theo van Gogh, this two-hander follows Theo as he prepares a posthumous exhibition and revisits his brother’s art, pain, and devotion.
Origin & Development
2014 premiere, written by Choi Yu-seon, composed by Sunwoo Jung-a, produced by HJ Culture, premiered at Chungmu Art Center (Seoul). Developed as a minimalist two-person musical using 3D projection mapping to animate van Gogh’s paintings onstage. 2014 premiere – Chungmu Art Center, Seoul. Multiple revivals through 2024 at Chungmu Art Center, Arko Arts Theater, YES24 Stage, and Sejong University Daehangno Theater.

The musical follows Vincent and Theo through the 700 letters they exchanged over their lifetimes, moving between memory, artwork, and emotional conflict. The staging blends live acting with projected art, recreating Vincent’s evolving style from early realism to late expressionism. Themes include devotion, artistic obsession, and the cost of genius.
